Volunteering at the Keene Public Library

The Library welcomes new volunteers. Volunteers do a variety of jobs around the Library and allow us to offer services that we would not otherwise be able to provide. Days and hours are usually flexible - you decide when you want to work.

The library is participating in United We Serve effort launched by President Obama to engage more Americans in serving their communities. We encourage you to get involved.

Here are some of the things our volunteers are currently doing:

  • shelving books & audio-visual materials
  • putting jackets on books
  • mending books
  • rewinding cassettes & videos
  • helping in the Youth Dept.
  • delivering materials to homebound people
  • assisting with special projects

Our Current Volunteer Needs Include:

Book Discussion Leaders
Chess Coach
Film Docent
Fish Tank Cleaning and Maintenance
Gaming Volunteer
Homework Helper
Summer Reading Program Assistant
Teen Program Assistant

For the above positions, please call Gail Zachariah at 603-352-0157.

All volunteers are required to have references and a background check which includes fingerprinting. Forms and instructions for volunteers 18 years of age and older are available in a Volunteer Information Packet.

If you are a teen between the ages of 14 and 17 and you wish to volunteer at the library, please contact Gail Zachariah, the Youth and Community Services Librarian at 603-352-0157. There is a VolunTeen application, informational flyer, and manual on teen volunteering that you can download in pdf format. Volunteers under the age of 16 will also need to submit a New Hampshire Youth Employment Certificate.
