There are several PCs with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher available on a first come first served basis. They print to a (black & white) laser printer. Computers in the Youth Dept. can be used for word processing also.
Nine Internet access workstations in the Adult area and four in the Youth Dept. are available to KPL card-holders and visiters. See KPL's Internet Policies for more information on use of the Internet terminals. These also print to a laser printer. Copies are 10¢ per page.
Laptop ports - There are laptop ports available on the tables behind the adult Reference Desk, as well as some in the Youth Department. Your computer must have an Ethernet or network card in order to hook up to these ports. They access the Internet on a very fast connection. Cables may be borrowed at the Reference Desk.
Wireless - the Library also has free Wireless available to connect to the Internet.
Laptops to borrow - The Library has two laptops that may be borrowed by KPL card holders for use in the adult section of the Library. Ask at the Reference Desk.
Internet - Besides the public Internet workstations, the Reference staff has access to the Internet and would be happy to help you find information or find it for you.
The Library has a set of Recommended Internet Links.
Computer instruction - For KPL cardholders, librarians will provide free one-on-one instruction in:
- Basic Computer Use
- Using the Internet
- Searching the Internet
- Using the Library Catalog
- Searching the Library's Online Databases
Please call the Reference Desk at 352-0157 to register for a class.
Youth Dept. computers - Several computers allow children to use a large variety of educational CD-ROMs and software titles. There are also four Internet access workstations and word processing computers.
Also available for public use are:
a typewriter
four photocopiers (copies are 10¢ each)
two microfilm and microfiche reader/printers (copies are 10¢ each)
a "TeleSensory print enlarging machine" which will enlarge printed materials up to 25 times
a public fax machine for sending faxes ($1.50 for first page and $1.00 for additional pages). This takes credit and debit cards. If you don't have either, we can sell you a debit card, good for the number of pages you need to fax.
