The Keene Public Library has declared April as “Money Smart Month” and has partnered with VALIC Financial Advisors to offer a free series of finance seminars. The first seminar, Retirement Strategies for Women, will be offered on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 6:15 p.m. Focusing on overcoming the financial hurdles specific to women as they plan and invest for the future, this program emphasizes the importance of having a personal plan, a sound strategy and a consistent approach to saving. Planning for Financial Security - Cash Management will be offered on Monday, April 10th at 6:15 p.m. On Monday, April 17, at 6:15 p.m. a special seminar for Millennials will include issues of student loan debt and underemployment—and provides guidance and strategies that can help with early planning for a more secure financial future. The program on Wednesday, April 19 at 1 p.m. focuses on the new retirement realities and how the essential income planning process can help attendees address the five risks associated with retirement: longevity, healthcare, inflation, investment, and withdrawal. On Wednesday, April 26, at 1 p.m. the program focuses on Investment Planning. Each seminar is 45 minutes in length.
On Tuesday, April 25 at 4 p.m. children are invited to “Happy Money Smart Week” where they can learn about money, as well as how to save money. Children will also make their very own piggy-bank to take home. Children of all ages are welcome! "Money Smart Week," April 22-29, a national initiative in its seventh year, is collaboration between the American Library Association (ALA) and the Federal Reserve Bank (Chicago) to provide financial literacy programming to help members of your community better manage their personal finances.
“Money Smart Week is an incredible opportunity for anyone to access free advice on all areas of personal finance,” said Heather Greenwell, Outreach Program Lead, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, which coordinates the campaign. “We hope individuals and families will take advantage of these educational offerings and ultimately improve or enhance their financial success.”
