Keene Public Library Invites Families to “Build a Better World” with Art Making Workshops

The Keene Public Library is pleased to present a special family art workshop presented by artist, art educator, and author Susan Schwake for an afternoon of art making on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Children age four and up will cut, paste, and paint their "News City" from her latest book “Art Camp.”  Call the library at 603-251-0157 and sign up for the free workshop in one of the time slots 1 p.m., 2 p.m., or 3 p.m. Wear paint clothes and get ready for a fun session of family creativity. The theme of the Keene Public Library summer reading program is “Build a Better World.” This workshop will show families how art making can bring people together to build a better world. Let your imagination soar by creating your own city!

Schwake is best known for her bold use of color in her nature-inspired paintings and for her playful-process oriented teaching style. Schwake offers workshops and programs to parents, teachers at universities, art studios, community centers, museums, libraries, and her own little art school.

Schwake has written five books about creating art with children (and daring adults). The latest release, Art Camp, is an easy-to-use collection of self-guided, open-ended lessons inspired by contemporary artists and nature. Art for All Seasons features 40 seasonally inspired creative art projects. These two books follow the release of her first three books from the bestselling Art Lab for Kids series, with over 75,000 copies sold in the USA. The series has been translated into seven languages, bringing her teachings to a worldwide audience.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Keene Public Library and Cognizant via the Maker Education Initiative, which is a national non-profit organization that provides educators and institutions with the training, resources, and community of support they need to create engaging, inclusive, and motivating learning experiences through maker education, a national non-profit organization that provides educators and institutions with the training, resources, and community of support they need to create engaging, inclusive, and motivating learning experiences through maker education.
