The Art of Making a Violin

Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Heberton Hall

The Keene Public Library is pleased to announce a talk about the process of making a violin, which will be given by New Hampshire Arts Council apprentice Cheryl Gallien on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Heberton Hall. Cheryl Gallien has spent a year apprenticing with master violin maker Hunt Smith.

The process of building a violin involves much more than carving some wood and gluing the pieces together.  Like learning to read, one must first learn some basics of seemingly unrelated topics. In this case, some of those topics included the use of tools, art, and wood.  Combining this knowledge with practice, the creation of a beautiful musical instrument emerges.

This program, sponsored by The Friends of the Keene Public Library, is free and open to the public. The Keene Public Library is located at 60 Winter Street, Keene. For further information about programs at the Keene Public Library, call 603-352-0157.
